Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, rendered in the typical provincial style of the Ephesian mint. The effigy displays the emperor's characteristic bearded portrait with a laurel wreath crowning the head. The Greek imperial titulature legend runs around the periphery of the flan. The surfaces are heavily encrusted with dark patina consistent with prolonged burial, partially obscuring the fine detail of the portrait.
