Obverse description Bare or laureate bust of Caracalla facing right, depicted as a young prince, with draped shoulder visible. The obverse legend in Greek characters surrounds the imperial effigy, identifying the emperor by his full titulature as Marcus Aurelius Antoninus. The portrait is rendered in the provincial die-cutting style characteristic of the Ephesian mint under the Severan dynasty.

Reverse description A boar striding to the right, transfixed by a diagonal spear thrust from the upper left, rendered in the compact style typical of Ephesian provincial bronzes. The scene alludes to the legendary Calydonian boar hunt, a mythological motif favored by the Ephesian mint. The ethnic legend ΕΦΕϹΙΩΝ is disposed around or below the type in the field. The overall composition fills the flan with bold, if somewhat roughly engraved, relief.
