Reverse description A laurel tree rendered frontally at the center of the reverse field, its branches spreading symmetrically to either side with visible foliage detail, rising from a short trunk at the base. The civic legend of Calchedon is distributed around the field in Greek characters, enclosed within a dotted border. The laurel tree served as a civic emblem of Calchedon, a Bithynian city on the eastern shore of the Bosporus, and appears as the principal type on numerous municipal issues of the imperial period.
