| Reverse description | Dionysus, the god of wine, depicted standing to the left in a relaxed contrapposto pose. In his extended right hand he holds a cantharus (wine cup), while his left arm rests upon a tall thyrsus (the staff of Dionysus). The figure is rendered in the Hellenistic tradition typical of civic bronzes from western Asia Minor. The ethnic legend ΑΠΟΛΛΩΝΙΔΕΩΝ encircles the reverse field, identifying the issuing city of Apollonis. |
