| Reverse description | Tyche of Smyrna standing to the left, draped, her head crowned with a kalathos (modius-like basket headdress symbolising civic prosperity). She holds a ship's rudder in her right hand, resting its base on the ground, and a cornucopia overflowing with fruits in her left arm. The encircling ethnic legend ϹΜΥΡΝΑΙΩΝ runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the issuing city. The composition follows the standard Hellenistic-Roman iconographic formula for the Tychē of a prosperous harbour city. |
