Additional information

Nicaea's civic bronzes under Septimius Severus were produced during a period of intense competition between Bithynian cities for imperial favor — Nicaea and Nicomedia fought bitterly over the title of "first city" of the province, a rivalry that played out partly through the volume and prestige of local coin issues. The city's claim to precedence dated back centuries, rooted in its role as the site of the 325 AD Council and its Hellenistic founding under Antigonus.

At 16mm, this falls at the lighter end of Nicaean civic production for the reign.
