Obverse description Facing draped bust of King Ioel, crowned with a elaborate tiara, centered within the field of this irregularly struck hammered bronze. The effigy is rendered in low relief characteristic of late Aksumite coinage, with the royal cloak visible at the shoulders. A Ge'ez legend meaning 'King' accompanies the portrait, distributed within the surrounding field.
