Syros punched well above its weight in the early second century — a small Cycladic island with enough civic pride to strike its own bronze under Hadrian. The retrograde legend ΕΙϹΙϹ ϹΥΡΙΩΝ is not a die-cutter's error but a deliberate, if poorly understood, epigraphic choice occasionally found on provincial issues from the Aegean islands, possibly reflecting a local scribal tradition or workshop habit.
The reference III#405 places this within a thinly documented series. Very few die studies exist for Syrian Cycladic bronzes of this period.
