Additional information

Cyzicus sat at the junction of land and sea routes connecting Europe to Asia Minor, and under Hadrian the city was rewarded handsomely for its loyalty — he visited the region during his eastern tours and the city received substantial imperial patronage, including completion of the long-unfinished temple of Zeus Polieus. Provincial bronzes of this conventus were struck by local authority for small-transaction commerce, circulating within a tight regional economy rather than across the empire.
