| Reverse description | A serpent coiling sinuously around an omphalos (the sacred navel-stone of Delphi), with the serpent's head turned to the left. The omphalos is depicted in the centre of the field, and the coiled body of the serpent wraps around it in a manner evoking the Agathos Daimon or Asclepian symbolism common in Bithynian civic coinage. The ethnic legend ΠΡΟΥϹΑΕΩΝ, denoting the citizens of Prusa ad Olympum, is distributed around the reverse field. The style is bold and deeply cut, consistent with the local die-cutting tradition of the Prusan mint. |
