Obverse description Laureate head of the emperor Trajan facing right, set within a dotted border. The portrait displays the characteristic military bearing and cropped hair of Trajanic coinage, rendered in a provincial style consistent with the civic mint of Sala in Mauretania Tingitana. The Greek ethnic legend CAΛHNΩN (of the Salaeans) curves around the field, identifying the issuing community. The flan is irregular and the surfaces carry an even olive-brown patina with traces of green cuprite.
