Obverse description Laureate head of the emperor Septimius Severus facing right, rendered in the characteristic provincial style of Bithynian coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's well-known bearded effigy with a radiate laurel wreath. The Greek imperial legend runs around the periphery of the flan, identifying the ruler by his title. The overall strike is somewhat irregular, consistent with the small-module civic bronze coinage of Nicaea under the Severan dynasty.
