Reverse description A broad-bodied kantharos (two-handled vase) with a ribbed body and two prominent lateral handles occupies the central field, depicted in frontal view. Two crossed palm branches emerge from the mouth of the vessel, their fronds spreading outward above the rim. The design is enclosed within a beaded border. The ethnic legend ΝΙΚΑΙΕΩΝ is distributed around the field, identifying the issuing city of Nicaea. This reverse type, combining the vase with palm branches, is a well-attested civic emblem on Nicaean bronze coinage of the Severan period.
