Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Septimius Severus facing right, rendered in the provincial style characteristic of Bithynian civic coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's characteristic full beard and laureate wreath. The abbreviated Greek legend is distributed around the periphery of the flan. The die work is typical of the municipal mint at Nicaea during the Severan period.
