| Obverse description | Bare head of the emperor Nero facing right, rendered in the provincial Greek style typical of Lydian civic coinage of the Julio-Claudian period. The portrait displays youthful features with short hair and no diadem or wreath. The legend encircles the effigy in Greek characters. The flan is slightly irregular, consistent with hand-struck provincial issues of this era. |

Mastaura was a minor Lydian city whose civic coinage under Nero survives in very small numbers — the community was modest enough that its issues rarely achieved wide circulation beyond the immediate region, and the conventus of Ephesus oversaw dozens of such local mints whose output was largely transactional and hyperlocal. The city's name appears in Pliny's geographical accounts but it left almost no administrative footprint in surviving Roman records.
