| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style characteristic of early Julio-Claudian provincial coinage. The emperor's effigy is depicted with smooth, youthful features and short hair arranged in the typical Augustan capillary style. The Greek legend ϹΕΒΑϹΤΟΥ curves around the portrait within a beaded border, identifying the ruler as Augustus. The flan is slightly irregular, as is typical of hammered bronze issues from this region. |
