Temnus was a minor Aeolian city whose civic coinage output under Augustus was modest and closely tied to the activity of local magistrates — the inscription naming Apollas, son of Phaenios, identifies him as the sitting tamias, a civic treasurer whose name effectively authorized the issue. These magistrate-signed bronzes were produced in short runs, often for a single term of office, which explains why RPC I 2461 surfaces rarely and almost always in circulated condition.
