| Reverse description | A bull advances to the right in a compact, stocky rendering typical of Phrygian provincial bronzes, its head lowered and tail raised. The ethnic legend ΙΕΡΑΠοΛΕΙΤΩΝ (of the Hierapolitans) is inscribed in the field above and around the bull, with the Rho rendered in the distinctive Ϸ (Bactrian/local Phrygian) form. The compact flan and irregular fabric are consistent with small civic issues struck under Antoninus Pius at Hierapolis in Phrygia. |
