| Obverse description | Standing figure of Ankaios, the mythological founder-king of Samos, depicted nude save for a chlamys draped over his shoulders, facing left. In his extended right hand he holds a patera, while his left arm rests upon a tall sceptre. The legend ΑΝΚΑΙΟϹ appears in the field, identifying the heroic figure.
