Additional information

Regnal year 11 of Hadrian's reign places this piece in 126/127 AD, the same period Hadrian made his celebrated visit to Egypt — a tour that included the famous ascent of the Colossus of Memnon at Thebes and prompted an outpouring of local commemorative issues. The Alexandrian mint operated on the Egyptian calendar, its regnal-year dating system making these bronzes unusually precise chronological markers compared to most provincial output.
