Reverse description Central device comprising a crescent, horns upward, surmounting a filleted globe or sphere decorated with fillet ties, the whole topped by an eight-pointed star above the crescent. The globe rests upon a low rectangular base or plinth. This lunar and astral symbolism is characteristic of the civic coinage of Carrhae, a city long associated with the worship of the moon god Sin. The Greek civic legend appears in the field around the central device, partially legible along the right margin of the flan.
