Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the Hellenistic portraiture tradition typical of Phrygian provincial coinage. A lituus (augural staff) is depicted before the emperor's effigy, alluding to his role as augur and supreme religious authority. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ appears in the field, identifying the subject as Augustus. The flan is irregular and the relief relatively low, consistent with locally struck provincial bronze coinage of the Julio-Claudian period.
