Obverse description Crocodile advancing to the right, depicted in profile with characteristic scaled body and open jaws. The design is rendered in low relief against an unadorned field, consistent with the simplified civic coinage of Roman Alexandria. The crocodile, a sacred symbol of the Nile and Egypt, served as a emblematic type on Alexandrian bronze issues of the Augustan period.
