Obverse description Laureate head of Emperor Commodus facing right, rendered in the local provincial style characteristic of Epirote coinage. The portrait displays the emperor's characteristic features with a laurel wreath crowning the head. A Greek imperial titulature legend surrounds the bust in the field. The flan is irregular and the die work reflects the modest output of the Nicopolis municipal mint.

Reverse description A single Greek letter Alpha (Α) prominently displayed within the center of a laurel wreath, the wreath rendered with carefully delineated leaves tied at the base. The wreath occupies the majority of the reverse field and serves as the sole decorative and denominational device, a type characteristic of the small civic bronze coinage of Nicopolis ad Acheloum in Epirus. The plain border frames the composition on the irregular flan.
