Obverse description Bust of a deity or ruler facing right in low relief, rendered in a schematic provincial style characteristic of post-Gupta central Indian coinage. The head is depicted with a summary headdress or diadem, with the facial features crudely but distinctly modelled. A border of raised pellets encircles the central motif, a common decorative convention in Malwa region issues of this period. The overall design reflects the debased artistic tradition of the Ujjain area in the early medieval period.
