Additional information

Olbia's copper coinage of the mid-first century AD was struck under Roman provincial authority following the city's gradual absorption into Rome's Pontic sphere, though the city retained enough autonomy to issue its own bronze. By this period Olbia had already endured a catastrophic sack by the Getae around 50 BC that left it severely depopulated for generations — the coins of the recovery era, including this assarion, are products of a city still rebuilding its civic institutions a full century later.
