| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a bold Arabic calligraphic legend rendered in nasta'liq script within a plain circular border. The legend proclaims the Shi'a profession of faith invoking the twelve Imams. A decorative floral or foliate finial surmounts the uppermost letter of the inscription. The entire design is enclosed within a distinctive outer border of alternating square pellets and geometric ornaments, characteristic of Zand-period coinage. |
