Obverse description Draped bust of Charles IV of Spain facing right, with the circular Portuguese crowned arms counter-stamp of João Prince Regent applied prominently over the central field, partially obscuring the underlying portrait. The counter-stamp, applied by the Mato Grosso authority, depicts the crowned Portuguese royal arms within a beaded circular border and bears the inscription MATO GROS. The surrounding legend of the host Spanish 8 Reales coin reads CAROLUS IIII DEI GRATIA with the date 1805 positioned in the lower field. The coin's original milled border remains visible at the periphery.
