Obverse description The obverse is set within a foliate guilloche border with a decorative red floral underprint. At the upper centre, the coloured heraldic shield of Wismar is displayed, flanked by two oval vignettes each containing a portrait of a German Shepherd dog head in profile — the left medallion inscribed 'Harras von der Jüch / Sieger 1921' and the right 'Nanthild von Riedenburg / Siegerin 1921' — united by an ornamental clasp with a teal rosette. Below, the denomination '95 Pfennig' appears in white script within a bold red circular cartouche, beneath which the word 'Notgeldschein' is rendered in large red Gothic lettering, followed by the issuing authority and validity text in black Gothic script, with a serial number in a ruled box at the foot.

Reverse description The reverse is printed on a dark background framing a central arched vignette of Wismar harbour rendered in colourful lithography, with sailing vessels and a small rowing boat on the water and the city skyline — dominated by a Gothic church tower — receding into a warm sunset sky. National and municipal flags are mounted on poles at the upper left, upper centre, and right margins of the vignette, lending a festive character to the composition. A light-toned banner below the harbour scene carries the caption 'Wismar. Hafen' in Roman lettering.

Comments

The Sanitätshundeverein München was a German Red Cross-adjacent organization training dogs for battlefield and disaster rescue work — a pursuit taken seriously enough in Weimar-era civil society that local chapters issued their own notgeld to cover operating costs. This 95 Pfennig piece from the Wismar branch is an unusual denomination, almost certainly chosen to hit a specific fundraising or membership fee target rather than to serve as practical small change.

Printed by A. Sander, a local Wismar trade printer, the note reflects the decentralized chaos of 1921 notgeld production, where civic clubs and charitable associations could commission currency-adjacent scrip with minimal oversight.
