Wickendorf is a small village in Upper Austria, and like hundreds of similarly obscure Austrian communes, it issued Notgeld during the coin shortage that gripped Austria from roughly 1919 through 1921. The 90 Heller denomination is an odd one — most Austrian Notgeld clusters around rounder values, and the choice of 90 suggests the commune was calibrating against specific local pricing needs or filling a gap left by other denominations already in circulation.
Karl Zehetner's signature as the responsible authority is the primary authentication on these issues. Commune-level Notgeld of this type was never legal tender beyond the issuing locality, and redemption depended entirely on the commune's willingness and ability to honor it when the crisis passed.
