Obverse description Host coin obverse of a Spanish Colonial Mexico 8 Reales (KM#109), featuring the laureate and draped bust of King Charles IV facing right, with a crenated square hole punched through the center of the field. Superimposed upon the host obverse is an applied crowned 'G' countermark, the crowned initial serving as the authorizing mark of the British administration of Guadeloupe. The circular legend surrounds the royal effigy in the customary Spanish colonial arrangement. The combination of the central cutout and the countermark are the defining features distinguishing this issue from its host coin.
