| Obverse description | Rectangular plaque featuring a high-relief bust of Theodor Mommsen facing slightly left within a raised circular border, flanked by laurel branches at the base of the portrait. The surrounding field bears the Latin dedication legend along the borders, with the sculptor's signature B. KRUSE visible in the field. A recessed rectangular tablet in the lower portion carries a four-line Latin inscription from the Prussian Academy of Sciences, dated 30 November 1897. |
