The Czech Lion bullion series, issued under Niue's authority but produced by the Czech Mint in Jablonec nad Nisou, was introduced in 2016 partly as a prestige project for the domestic Czech market — a country that cannot issue its own bullion coinage under EU monetary arrangements. The kilogram format appeared in 2017 and 2018 as the flagship of the range.
Czech Mint struck these to .9999 fineness, a purity standard they adopted aggressively across their bullion lines to compete directly with the Royal Canadian Mint's Maple Leaf program.
