Additional information

The "Master Artisan" series, issued by the People's Bank of China, draws from a state-directed initiative begun around 2015 to promote traditional craft heritage under the broader "craftsman spirit" (工匠精神) policy framework endorsed at the national legislative level. The 5-gram gold denominations in this program were produced in strictly controlled mintages through the China Gold Coin Corporation, the sole authorized distributor for People's Bank commemorative issues.

Legal tender face value of 80 yuan bears almost no relationship to the coin's gold content value — a gap that grows wider each year it sits in a collector's hands.
