Additional information

The "Auspicious Culture" gold series, launched by the People's Bank of China in the mid-2010s, draws on traditional folk iconography tied to festivals, harvests, and the lunar calendar — themes that have driven robust domestic collector demand and made these small-denomination issues far more liquid within China than comparable Western bullion fractions. The 2017 issue in this series was produced in relatively modest quantities, consistent with the PBC's practice of tightly controlling mintages on thematic gold to sustain secondary market premiums.

At 5 grams, these pieces were priced well below China's average monthly wage at issue, a deliberate accessibility strategy the PBC began applying more aggressively after 2010.
