Obverse description The obverse displays the original design of the host coin, a 1 Tanga issued under Dom Miguel I of Portuguese India, struck in copper with an irregular flan. The central field bears the crowned Portuguese royal arms with intricate Indic-influenced decorative elements surrounding the shield. A small circular crowned countermark bearing the initials 'G.P.' (Goa Province) is applied to the right portion of the field, re-validating the coin for circulation at 80 Réis under King Luiz I in 1877. The surfaces show considerable wear and patination consistent with heavy circulation.
