| Reverse description | The reverse of the host coin features a large armillary sphere rendered in bold relief, composed of intersecting meridian and equatorial bands forming a globe-like lattice, consistent with Portuguese colonial coinage of the period. The sphere is centrally positioned within the coin's field and is encircled by the full Latin legend PECVNIA·TOTVM·CIRCUMIT·ORBEM, meaning 'Money goes around the whole world,' a motto characteristic of Portuguese Angola copper coinage under José I. The legends are deeply struck in capital Roman characters along the coin's periphery. The overall design reflects the standard reverse type used for Angola 40 Réis issues of the mid-eighteenth century. |
