Obverse description Bare-headed effigy of King Joseph Napoleon (José I Bonaparte) facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed curly hair and a naturalistic portrait style characteristic of Neoclassical engraving. The truncation of the neck is plain and unadorned. The date 1809 appears in the lower field beneath the portrait. The surrounding legend, separated by pellets, runs along the inner edge of a beaded border.
