| Obverse description | Light blue ground with a bold central vignette of a historic sailing galleon rendered in a bold woodcut-inspired style, flanked by the large denomination numerals '80' at left and 'PF' at right in dark red and black. The Kiel municipal coat of arms — a shield bearing an anchor and the Holstein sun — appears centrally beneath the ship's hull. Two diagonal ribbon banners carry the inscription 'Kieler Herbstwoche für Kunst und Wissenschaft' and the dates '1921 / 10.–18. September'. A text panel at the bottom gives the redemption conditions, and the border on all four sides carries a repeated motto in letterpress. The designer's name 'Johann B. Maier' appears along the lower edge, with the printer's imprint 'Gebr. Parcus München' at lower right. |

The Kieler Herbstwoche — Kiel's autumn week of arts and sciences — was a short-lived cultural festival revived in the early Weimar years as the city tried to reassert civic identity after the trauma of the 1918 naval mutiny, which had started in Kiel's own harbor and helped topple the Kaiser. Notgeld issued in connection with the event was as much promotional printing as emergency currency, and Gebrüder Parcus in Munich were among the more technically capable printers handling this kind of commission work.
Johann B. Maier's involvement places this squarely in the collector-oriented Serienscheine market — notes designed to be kept, not spent.
