Crivitz is a small town in Mecklenburg, and like hundreds of German municipalities it turned to Notgeld during the acute coin shortage of 1917–1921. The 80 Pfennig denomination is an oddity — most municipal issues clustered around 10, 25, and 50 Pfennig values, with 75 Pfennig already being unusual. An 80 Pfennig piece suggests either a very specific local pricing need or, more likely, a set designed to total a round sum across multiple denominations.
Crivitz's issues were printed locally or through regional printers common to smaller Mecklenburg towns, and the runs were typically short. Surviving examples often show heavy handling — these circulated in earnest.
