Austrian Gemeinde notgeld of this type was driven by a nationwide coin shortage that persisted well after the armistice — the new Republic had inherited the Monarchy's depleted metal reserves and couldn't supply small change to rural municipalities fast enough. Hinterbrühl, a small village in the Wienerwald south of Vienna, solved the problem locally by commissioning Wehhofers Erben in nearby Mödling, a practical choice given the proximity.

The 80 Heller denomination is slightly atypical — most notgeld issues clustered around 10, 20, and 50 Heller. An 80 Heller value suggests either a specific local pricing need or deliberate rounding to cover a gap in the municipality's existing issue set.
