| Obverse description | Four large Sino-Vietnamese characters arranged in cruciform around a centrally placed flaming pearl (hỏa châu), rendered in high relief with radiating flames. The four characters reading 'Thành Thái Thông Bảo' occupy the cardinal positions of the field. The coin is bordered by a continuous beaded inner rim. Two pierced holes are visible at the top and bottom edges, indicating use as an ornamental or presentation piece. |
