Obverse description Central device depicts a caparisoned elephant walking to the left, carrying upon its back a fortified tower or howdah with battlements and a flaming finial. The elephant's housing bears a crowned shield displaying the royal monogram 'C' (for Christianus). The circular legend surrounding the central device reads CHRISTIANVS·IV·D:G·, separated from the inner field by a dotted border. The overall composition is characteristic of early seventeenth-century Danish hammered coinage, with robust relief and bold engraving typical of the period.
