Reverse description The reverse depicts a full-length standing figure of Saint Ambrose, patron saint of Milan, shown facing front in episcopal vestments including a mitre and cope. He raises his right hand in blessing while his left hand holds a long pastoral staff or crozier. The surrounding Latin legend S. AMBR - OSIVS. identifies the saint. The figure is rendered in the Gothic-influenced style typical of Milanese hammered silver coinage of the mid-sixteenth century, with fine drapery details visible on the irregularly shaped flan.
