Obverse description At center, a crowned royal shield bearing the quartered arms of Denmark is displayed within a beaded inner circle. A long-armed cross extends behind the shield, dividing the surrounding Latin legend into four segments. The crown above the shield is rendered in the Renaissance style typical of mid-16th-century Danish coinage. The inscription reads FRIDERICVS II DEI GRATIA DANIAE REX, identifying the issuer as Frederik II, King of Denmark by the Grace of God.
