Obverse description Full-length facing figure of St. John the Evangelist, bearded and nimbed, holding a lamb in his left arm, set within the inner field. The city arms of Lübeck — a quartered shield — appear below the saint's feet. To the right of the figure, the city's secondary heraldic device is visible in the field. The date is incorporated at the end of the encircling Latin legend, which reads MONE. NOVA. LVBECENS.
