| Obverse description | The obverse displays the Peruvian national arms as the host coin type, here a Peruvian 8 Reales dated 1826 struck at the Lima Mint. The central shield is quartered, depicting a llama, a cinchona tree, and a cornucopia, surmounted by a radiant sun above the escutcheon. The shield is flanked by laurel and palm branches tied at the base with a ribbon. The circular legend reads REPUB. PERUANA with the mint mark M, denomination 8R, and assayer initials flanking the date 1826 in the lower field. A small circular Guatemalan Type III counterstamp is applied prominently to the obverse field, consisting of a radiant sun motif used to validate the host coin for circulation in Guatemala. |
