Obverse description The Mexican national arms occupy the central field, depicting an eagle displayed facing left, wings spread, perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop amid water, with a serpent grasped in its beak. The eagle is rendered in fine detail with carefully engraved feathering. The central device is flanked by an olive branch to the right and an oak branch to the left, tied with a ribbon at the base. The circular legend REPUBLICA MEXICANA runs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters, with a beaded border encircling the entire design.
