Louis I's reign lasted just seven months before smallpox killed him in August 1724, yet the Potosí mint continued striking coins in his name well into 1727 — a bureaucratic lag that was entirely normal for colonial mints operating months behind official dispatches from Madrid. News of a monarch's death could take six months or more to reach the Viceroyalty of Peru by the time it cleared Seville, crossed the Atlantic, and traveled overland from Buenos Aires or Cartagena.
The macuquina (cob) format of this issue means die alignment and flan shape are inherently irregular. KM#R35 denotes the restrike designation, distinct from circulation strikes listed under KM#35.
