Reverse description Central quartered coat of arms of Spain surmounted by a royal crown, incorporating the traditional Castilian castle, Leonese lion, Aragonese pallets, and Navarrese chain in the four quarters, with the pomegranate of Granada in base. Superimposed at the centre of the shield is a small oval escutcheon bearing the Napoleonic eagle. The denomination numeral 8 appears to the right of the shield, and the mintmark R (for Real) to the left. The circular legend HISPANIARUM ET IND·REX·M·I·G· runs around the periphery, denoting King of the Spains and the Indies, with the Madrid mint initial and assayer's letters.
